The Living Room is Done! Well Almost that is.....

I have gotten the living room almost finished. The only thing missing is some things on the walls, but I am not sure what I want to hang up yet.... Sorry the photos are dark, but because the room is so big and has such a high ceiling it is hard to get good lighting in her during the day for a good photo.....

Garden Update

We have been taking really good care of the garden, and it seems to be paying off! Lots of things are starting to flower and bloom. Here are some photos of the progress so far!

Our strawberry plant had strawberries show up practically overnight!

More strawberries.....

Here is one of our tomato plants. We used one of those Topsy Turvy planters that you see on TV and it seems to be working really good.

More strawberry plants that the neighbor gave us..

This is the other tomato plant. That tomato is the biggest on it, but there are about 5 total (there used to be 6 but a certain 2 year old swiped one!)

Here is Adam's jalapeno plant..you can see one of the peppers, and there are alot of others that are little bity ones right now too.

Our yellow pepper plant...too soon for any peppers.

The purple bell pepper plant...again too soon...

Finally the orange pepper plant.

Here is the cantelope plant that Kayla is attempting to grown...we will see how it turns out........

Our green beans have started to sprout! We have a total of 11 sprouts and we planted 5 more seeds today.

More green beans....

The only thing I don't have photos of are the Pea plants, and that is because they have not sprouted yet. They should be showing up in the next week though.

Happy Birthday Kayla!

I tell ya, I don't know where time goes, but it flies! Today, my little girl turned 4! I still am having a hard time believing that I am the mother of a 4 year old! It seems like just yesterday that she was a little newborn and Adam and I were still trying to figure out the whole "parenting" thing!

This is a photo of Kayla when she was a day old. Such a little baby (especially in comparison to the brother that would come along 18 months later!)

Here is the big girl tonight ready to blow out the candles on her cake! In tribute to her birthday here are a few things about Miss K:

- She is the absolute girliest little girl that you will ever meet! She wears so much pink and red that I have an entire load of those colors each week!

- She is so compassionate and loving towards everyone. It made me smile at Preschool Parent/Teacher conferences to hear that she would make a point of playing with the kids that no one else wanted to play with, and that she is always the first to get to someone who is hurt to make sure that they are ok.

- She is such a great example for her brother! For the most part too, she is very patient with him and tries to teach him right from wrong.

- She is so dang smart!!! I swear her vocabulary astounds me everyday, and I can't believe some of the conversations that we have!

- Her favorite thing in life is to learn, and she can't get enough of it!

- She has become very money savy....which I am sure is due in part to saving up for our big Disney World trip this winter!

- She loves to curl up on the couch and cuddle...which her daddy and I absolutely enjoy!

- She handles change so easily....which is good since we moved 3 times in the last year!

Here is a photo of the birthday cake that I made for her...I am a big fan of homemade cakes because there is so much more thought and love behind them.

Tradition in our house is for the birthday girl/boy to choose breakfast. Kayla chose breakfast tacos!

I'm not sure how he did it, but he managed to eat most of his taco this way!

Time to open her present from Grammy and Papa Heitmeier

Such a cutie!

Wearing her green dress from Grammy and Papa Lange...I didn't get a photo of her with her Mary Moo figurine though....She chose to eat at Chuck E Cheese for her birthday.

Riding a ride at Chuck E Cheese.

She loved this horse ride
Time for Adam and Carter to play some Air Hockey
For cake time we all had a small frosting fight!

What a pair of cuties :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAYLA!

Our "Garden"

We decided to attempt to plant a garden this summer. I say attempt because there is absolutely no way to plant anything in our soil. I am not kidding when I say that 1 inch below the ground is solid rock! I took inspiration from my friend Steph and decided to plant our garden in various containers (Adam wouldn't let me use kiddy pools Steph!).

Time to start filling things with soil (which we had to purchase because of said rocky soil problem).

Kayla absolutely loved this...and don't you love all of the pink she wears on a daily basis!

Carter even got in on the action for a bit...although I am pretty sure that gardening is not his thing.

Learning about seeds and how they grow with Daddy.

By the end of the day we had planted: 2 rectangular containers of green beans, 2 rectangular containers of peas, a purple bell pepper plant (never seen one before so curious to see it), an orange bell pepper plant, a yellow bell pepper plant, a jalapeno plant, canteloupe, strawberries (in a very nice hanging basket), and 2 tomato plants....I would have like to have planted more but Adam made me stop. I tell ya, if I lived in the country I would have a HUGE garden!

Sea World

We took the kids to Sea World this past weekend to celebrate Kayla's upcoming birthday. It was a great day and we were all completely exhausted by the end of it!

Posing with daddy while they wait in line for a ride.

Our birthday present to Kayla was eating dinner with Shamu....I am so close to the whale that I did not even zoom with the camera. If you ever have the chance to do this...DO IT!
On top of a really neat private show with Shamu, we had amazing food!
Checking out a dolphin...I think he is looking for food :)
Sometimes I even manage to sneak in for a photo...but it never fails that my kids are complete hams when I take photos with them!

Easter

I know I am a bit behind on things but it's been a bit crazy around here! Here are some highlights of Easter....it was a pretty laid back day for us.

Time to decorate their eggs

I swear that they look like they are going to throw them at Adam!
Here is Carter with his Easter basket...new Geo Trax items

Kayla got Tinkerbell Bubble Bath and a new Nightgown
Posing for a decently cute photo...with their picture/letter from the Easter Bunny

A Momentous Occasion

I am sure by the title you are going to hear that something profound has happened to my family.....well in our world it did! Tonight for the first time EVER.....Carter not only told us that he needed to go to the bathroom, but he actually went and sat on the potty and POOPED!! WOOT WOOT!!!!!!

I feel like maybe just maybe we have finally made some progress in the never-ending battle that is potty training him!

My little kitchen helper

Tonight as I was working on making dinner, Carter came into the kitchen and asked me if he could help with something...okay okay really he was begging me to wash the grapes that we had just bought so he could eat them. Doesn't it sound so much sweeter though to think that he asked to help make dinner!

So I decided that a strapping young boy such as Carter would be perfect for taking the grapes off of the stems. I sat him on the floor (it's clean I promise!) with the bag of grapes and a strainer. He spent the next 15 minutes in silence taking each grape off of the stem and putting it into the strainer. Although there were a few times in there where he would pretend a grape was some sort of evil villain and would squash it...but who cares right :)

I even managed to get him to pose for a few photos for me!

What a cutie (and oh my I can't believe how big he looks in this photo, and HOW much he looks like Adam!)...this kid is going to make such a great husband one day!

Hard at work! When Adam told him to come get in his chair for dinner he informed his daddy "but I not yet done wiff my work!"

WHAT....IS.....THAT......

The title of this post was pretty much Kayla's response to sushi last night! Adam got some fresh sushi while we were at the grocery store (and yes my Minot friends, they make fresh sushi in the grocery stores here!). We took it home and Adam tried and tried to get the kids to eat it. Kayla was content to pose with it, but after a teeny bite proceeded to spit it out and try and wipe her tongue off.

Cater however was not going to be convinced that sushi was something that he needed to try :)
