My kids have become tooth brushing fanatics! Every morning they both beg to brush their teeth! After mom gets a good cleaning done for each of them they both like to "finish" up. Kayla's idea of finishing it herself is to suck the remaining toothpaste off of the brush!
Such a good boy...brushing his teeth after eating pancakes and syrup!

Daddy Time
Thankfully in this day and age we have numerous means at our disposal for the kids to communicate with their father! I can't even imagine what it was like for families during the World Wars and Vietnam! Here is Kayla talking on the phone with her daddy...if I remember correctly she was singing him a song when I took this photo.
One of the best things Adam could have done before he left was to videotape himself reading books to the kids. It is the one thing I have that will calm them both down in a heartbeat. It is hilarious to watch them as they watch it because they interact with the video and talk to Adam!! Carter loves to yell HI DADDY at the TV.

My birthday
Yesterday was my birthday and I have to give a huge thank you to all of the girls here in Minot! They threw me a wonderful birthday luncheon at the new Mexican restaurant in Minot..which is fabulous by the way!! We had an absolute blast complete with me getting a faceful of ice cream from the waitstaff as a Happy Birthday (the picture of that is forthcoming and trust me it is hilarious!!) But for your viewing pleasure here are a few pictures that were taken on my camera. Once I get the photos from everyone else I will post those as well! Not the greatest photo in the world of me but oh well :) Here I am with my birthday cake that my friend Mikki made for me...it was YUMMY!
The beautiful flowers that Patrick and Kally sent me for my birthday!
Here are the pearl earrings that my wonderful husband got for me. I don't have them yet so he sent me a photo for my birthday.
Like I said earlier...once I get the photos from friends I will post those!

The mother of all temper tantrums
So this morning the kids and I were walking up to church when Kayla decided that she no longer wanted to go today and refused to go in. Well I got her drug in the church and she proceeded to throw the mother of all temper tantrums! I am talking about screaming like someone is beating her, laying on the floor in front of the door kicking and flailing around so that people have to step over her to get in to church. So when I decided that we were heading home I had to carry both kids (it was more like dragging her again!) out to the car while she proceeded to kick and hit her brother the whole way. The tantrum then continued for another 20 minutes when we got home. I am telling you it was like she was possessed or something! Needless to say she is spending the entire day (minus lunch and dinner) in her room.

You know your child has watched too many cartoons when...
So I went down to the toy room today just in time to catch my daughter on the roof of her playhouse. She informed me that she was trying to be like Handy Manny and fix her house! I am telling you that I am going to end up in the ER again this time with a broken bone instead of a head injury!!

My little artist
I have finally found something that keeps Carter calm and entertained for quite some time. He loves to color! We have these new crayola crayons that are more like pencils and you twist them to get the color up and down...definitely keeps him from eating them! They are called Twistables Colored Pencils and I highly recommend them for little kids and coloring. Oh and they are washable which is huge in our house thanks to our little artist (Kayla). We have decided that today's creation will be heading to Daddy.
The best part is that when he is done he puts the crayons away by himself!! Kayla just hides them for later coloring escapades (her wall!!)
Here is the picture he colored if you can see it.
What a cute little boy!! He loves to smile for the camera!

Like father like daughter
We recently bought a V-Smile off of a friend of ours and Kayla loves to play with it! I guess she is going to love video games just like her daddy. She will just sit in her rocking chair and play silently...
It's so funny to watch her play because she has this straight-faced look about her. She will make a great poker player some day!

Things that make you go Hmmmm
So for those of you that are unaware....Carter's favorite breakfast food is cereal. Every morning when we get downstairs he runs right in to the kitchen and starts pointing at the refrigerator begging for it. It is really cute :) Well today while I was out of the room he decided that he needed to get down from the table and eat the last of his cereal like the dogs eat. So I found him on the floor with his face in the bowl eating. I couldn't manage to actually get a picture of him with his head in the bowl, but here he is just after he finished.... Ok Mom it's time for a refill.......No seriously I have the bowl and the milk.......

Just another day in paradise...
You know I love my children dearly...that being said...there are days like today when they are driving me insane! In the last 10 minutes Kayla has shredded a roll of toilet paper across the floor while I was on the phone and slammed her brothers fingers into a closet door as well as throwing toys at his head. Carter has been trying to jump furniture as well as biting the dog (what normal person does that?!?!?!). So needless to say they are both down for their 2nd naps of the afternoon. I know Kayla's issue is that she is beyond tired. The last 2 nights she has had very bad dreams and neither of us have slept much. However, I still don't think that completely excuses her behavior. Carter, well he is just being Carter, and I have yet to figure out the best way to reign in his boyishness (is that a word?) I wish he was like Kayla and would at least sit down for a 30 minute movie and calm down. Instead he is always on the move and ALWAYS destroying something! Maybe along with the helmet I need to put him in Kayla's bear backpack leash!! So here I am with about 30 minutes of silence..I think I am going to take a cat nap :)

Update on Carter's Head
Well the steri-strips came off of Carter's head today so I thought I would share pictures of his war wound with everyone. I am hoping it won't scar too bad, but we are going back to the doctor this week so he can look at it one last time. The way it got cut is the weirdest looking thing! I have no idea what he would have hit on the way down that would have made it look like it does. Needless to say though, the wound has not slowed him down a bit!

My little runaway..
Today was a first in our house...Kayla got very upset that I wouldn't let her watch cartoons (she watched them all day yesterday!!) so she informed me that she was running away to Miss Courtney's house. She packed her suitcase with her pet shop animals and went to get her coat and shoes on. She got very angry at me when I explained to her that I wouldn't help a runaway put her shoes on. She was bound and determined that she was running away to live with someone that was nicer than mommy! Here she is on her way to the door to get her shoes on.
She couldn't find her shoes so she tried to wear Carters.
Leave me alone Mommy...I will run away if I want to!! After this photo she went around the house saying goodbye to the dogs and all of her toys.

My wonderful son :)
I am sure many of you are wondering how exactly Carter manages to bang up his head so much. Well I thought I would share some photos with you of the little daredevil in action. The sad part is these are really tame photos for what he does on a daily basis! Yesterday for example while we were in with his doctor he was climbing on furniture and jumping off of it! The doctor even agreed with me that a helmet for around the house may not be such a bad idea! They actually make helmets for kids like Carter and you can see them at www.thudguard.com Notice the creative foot stool he came up with! At times I will find him hanging off the side of the table eating or drinking whatever is on the table...mind you when he is doing that he is not holding on to anything!
I wish I could have snapped in time, but at one point I found him hanging from that tiny little cubby ledge just laughing hysterically!
Although Carter knows how to crawl up and down the stairs, after Wednesday I decided to reinstall the gates. He has decided to try to walk down the stairs which is how he ended up cracking his head open. The sad thing is the gate won't stop him for long because he is now trying to figure out how to crawl over it (thus the reason for the foot between the bars on the step!)
So like I said, it is a very fun time around our house with little Evil Knievel!! If he would slow down it would help his mother out so much (as well as her ulcer!!)

Planet Pizza Day
Evidently Planet Pizza in town has turned a large room in their building in to a bouncey castle room with 4 huge bouncers in it. They charge you $3 a kid and they can bounce all day long! The kids had an absolute blast! We will definitely be taking advantage of it on cold days! Mommy and Kayla after coming down one of the slides.
Here's Mommy and Carter getting ready to go down another slide.

Yet another reason why I appreciate the military
Last night we received about a foot of snow. One of the wonderful things about the military is that today you can look all over base and see men out shoveling the driveways and sidewalks of women whose husbands are gone. Only in a community like the military where we really take care of each other will you find that. You all have no idea how much something as little as having my driveway shoveled helps out when Adam is gone!

Latest Head Injury for Carter
As you all know Carter is a typical boy, yet a very clumsy one! Today as we were heading out the door for a meeting and I was talking to Adam on the phone, Carter fell down our stairs. We have wooden stairs that end on a tile floor. I heard him fell and expected to see a lump on his head like he usually has when he bangs his head on something. However, as he rolled over his entire face was covered in blood!! He had split his forehead open in 4 different spots. The splits all make a diagonal line down his head. So I rushed him to the ER. They did x-rays to be safe but his skull is fine. The doctor didn't feel like it needed stitches so he steri-stripped it shut. Carter is actually doing really good with it. He sat still the entire time in the ER (minus the x-ray part) and laughed with the nurses. Needless to say I am now nervous everytime he even takes a step! Between this and his concussion last month, I am about to make him start wearing a helmet. So please, in the future if you see my son wearing a helmet everywhere don't laugh :) Here are some pictures after we got back from the ER.

The next Paula Deen
Kayla absolutely loves to help me cook. She decided to help me make Hot Chocolate one day, insisting that I let her do the stirring. She found an old pedometer of mine and is just convinced that it is a phone. Here she is holding it up to her ear having an entire conversation with her Grandma. She absolutely cracks me up when has these pretend phone conversations. Plus I love the facial expressions she makes!

My 10 random thoughts of the day
As many of you know I am kind of a random thinker (especially now that Adam is gone and most of my conversations are with an individual that is younger than 3!) So I thought I would enlighten you all on some of the things I have been thinking about lately (feel free to laugh at me all you want, I know Courtney will!) These are in no particular order of importance by the way!
1. I really don't think its possible to find a cartoon more obnoxious than Yo Gabba Gabba...
2. Who do I have to pay money to and how much so that I can look like John McCain's wife when I am that age (the woman is 53 by the way!)
3. What exactly do priests do when they aren't at work? (I shared this one with Courtney earlier today)
4. After dealing with my wonderfully destructive son these past few days do we really need more children??
5. How is it that there seems to be no difference in how a -30 windchill day and a -50 windchill day feel?
6. Why did God create dogs when all they really do are bark, shed and pee all over your house...
7. Why do the local news stations think that when we tune in to the Noon news show that all we want to hear about is the price of grain?
8. Why do people seem to think that I care to sell or someone cares to buy for that matter their used underwear at a Thrift store?
9. How come Carter won't eat Ketchup or spaghetti sauce but he will eat pizza with tomato sauce on it?
10. My all-time favorite daily thought...why again did I decide to stay here for the next year when I could have moved to San Antonio (by the way the temp there right now is 65 while the temp here right now is -5)
Please feel free to share any random thoughts you may have....I am always up for new ideas to ponder :)

My good friend Mikki has a cake business. When she has left over tops of cakes she will share them with us (those are very happy days!) Carter is a HUGE fan of her cakes, and he decided to steal some of the chocolate leftovers... Hey...I'm eating here!!!
Hmmmmm do I eat more now or later???

Miss John Deere 2008
Kayla has always been one of the girliest tomboys! While she loves everything about farming and getting dirty, she always finds a way to make just a little bit girly or princessy. Tonight she dressed up in her crown and heels with her tractor shirt. She's a girl after Grampy's heart!

Kayla's First Boyfriend
I was babysitting tonight for a friend. Their youngest son Michael is a year older than Kayla. The 2 love to play with each other and tonight they decided to watch Bob the Builder together. Kayla sat next to him with her arm around him while Michael held her baby doll for her. Guess she is starting the boy crazy thing early!!
Here are the 2 lovebirds later in the evening when they decided to play house together. Looks like they are off on a vacation, and I do have to say I like that "Dad" is carrying the diaper bag :)

It's Amazing!
It is 8pm here and for the first time since Adam left both kids are asleep and neither of them gave me any grief over it!! WOOT WOOT!! Carter went to bed at 7:30 and actually said "Nigh Nite" as I laid him down then cuddled up with his Care Bear and was almost asleep before I left the room. Kayla fell asleep watching American Idol with me (her new favorite show that she calls Miracle Idol and asks to watch every night...like mother like daughter!) and is now snoring loudly on the couch because I haven't gotten up to take her to her bed yet. I think I might have to crack open a bottle of wine to celebrate/relax for once! Feel free to crack one of your own open and pretend like you are enjoying it with me!

Virtual Grocery List
For those of you that can shop at a commissary I found an awesome website. http://www.commissaries.com/log_in/html/list_fr.cfm
Once you get to the site you can choose a commissary and then the category you are looking for and aisle the item is in. Once there you will see an exact list of the items your specific commissary carries in that category and you can select what you want to make a grocery list with exactly what you need!
Example:
If I was looking for Pop-Tarts once I select the department (grocery food) then commodity (breakfast food) and product (toaster pastry) it will list every brand and flavor of that item my commissary carries.
I know that might sound difficult but it is all accomplished thru drop-down menus and is super easy to use!!
Happy Shopping!

I wanted to make you all aware of a program that supports military troops that are deloyed as well as those that have been wounded. It is called Soldiers' Angels. There are various to help out and volunteers. These range from sewing/knitting items for wounded soldiers to sending care packages and letters to those that are deployed. If you have ever wished you could help out our deployed soldiers visit their website at http://soldiersangels.org
Under the teams and programs tab they have a list of all the ways that you can help out.

The Lange Family Zoo
Ever since Adam left, Kayla has become rather attached to a group of her stuffed animals. She carrys them everywhere around the house and talks to them/treats them like they are her children. When we leave, I have to fight with her to only take 1 animal because I cannot deal with 5 of them. There are nights that she sleeps with me where I have Kayla, her 5 animals, and our 2 dogs in the bed with me, and we only have a Queen sized bed! The animals each have their own names: The big cow is named Lady because thats what she calls all of the big cows on the farm. The little cow is named Missy after Kayla's calf back on the farm. The large cat is named Mr. Kitty and the small cat is named Orange Boy. She also has a Yellow sheep that she named Yellow Sheep (she gets her creativity from her father!) I caught her a few minutes ago scolding Missy and putting her in the corner. She was telling her"Missy your mommy (lady) said you was bad girl so you just have a put your nose in corner. Missy if you not stay there you have a go to your bed!" Its hilarious to watch her interact with them!

Hilarious One-Liner!
Earlier tonight Carter and I were laying on the couch. He is cutting few more teeth so and he doesn't feel so good. I have to say that this is the first time since he was 6 months old that he has just laid down with me. Normally he is all over the place. So anyways we were laying down watching HGTV (my favorite channel ever!) and a commercial came on for the show Color Correction. At one point a few months ago Adam and I were watching tv and he had mentioned that he thought Constance Ramos (the host) was a very attractive woman. Well evidently Kayla remembered that because as soon as she saw her on the commercial she started jumping up and down yelling "That's my daddy's favorite woman!!" I have to say that some women would be offended by something like that, but I thought it was absolutely hilarious!!

My Saving Grace...
Well as you all know I have been having issues with the Tahoe this week. Last night when the towing company came, I had them take it to their shop first Their mechanic said that he would look at it and if he could fix it cheaply he would do so. Otherwise they would take it back to the dealership (which I really didn't want to do because they were so rude to me, and couldn't manage to fix it right to begin with) Well the mechanic called me today, and its amazing how quickly and easily a car can get fixed when the mechanic listens to you and doesnt just assume you are an idiot because you are a woman! He said that as soon as I told him I was having power issues he looked at all of the fuses and lines and as it turns out I just had a loose cable running to the battery, which he tightened for free. He said that he cant guarantee it because he didn't see it earlier, but that what the dealerhsip fixed may not have needed to be fixed at all. Plus had they listened to me in the first place it should have been easy to figure out what was wrong with the car.
So the moral of my story is, if you live in Minot and ever need your car fixed call RJ motors in Ruthville because they are awesome to work with and the mechanic doesn't treat women like they are idiots!
