Adam and I have decided to start teaching Kayla about money and saving very early. From now on, unless it's her birthday or Christmas, she has to buy any toys that she wants. She now has chores assigned to her, earning her a $3 allowance from mommy and daddy, and extra chores that earn her $1 from Uncle Adam and Aunt Jackie each week. The rule is that at least $1 of it has to go in her piggy bank for savings, but the rest can go in her allowance jar to use for what she wants. She is pretty good about putting more than $1 in so far.
She decided that she wanted some more Strawberry Shortcake dolls to play with. Since Jackie and I were having a garage sale this weekend we told her that she could have a bake sale and lemonade stand. If she worked at it the whole time, any money she made was hers. Well she earned enough today for 2 dolls! After she paid for the dolls, the remainder of the money is going to savings.
I have to say that I am really proud of her so far! She no longer asks for things in the stores because she knows that she has to pay for them herself. It has caused her to prioritize her wants. On top of that, she is a huge help around the house with chores! Here she is bright and early ready to make some money.
Can you tell that she woke up before 7am.....
Later in the day she made a deal with Carter that if he helped sell cookies she would give him half..he made $2 for his piggybank.
But he did try to steal her allowance jar, which she kept a tight grip on! By the end of the day, she had 1 baggy of cookies remaining!
Here she is with her hard earned new dolls....Crepe Suzette and Rainbow Sherbert. K- mommy and daddy are so proud of you!
